Stowing away on ships is a risky and illegal practice that some people undertake in desperate attempts to seek better opportunities or escape difficult circumstances in their home countries.

It is concerning that the migrants had to endure such harsh conditions for 14 days, hiding in the space above the ship's rudder.

The distance covered during the journey, approximately 3,500 miles, indicates the seriousness of their situation.

Additionally, the fact that they exhausted their food and water supplies after just ten days highlights the precariousness of their situation.

Surviving the remaining four days solely on seawater would have been incredibly difficult, as seawater is not fit for human consumption due to its high salt content.

Drinking seawater can lead to dehydration and other health issues, exacerbating their already perilous situation.

It's fortunate that the Brazilian federal police eventually found and rescued the migrants.

Such incidents underscore the importance of addressing the root causes of migration and providing safe and legal channels for people to seek refuge or pursue better opportunities, as well as improving measures to prevent dangerous and unauthorized journeys that put people's lives at risk.
