WAEC Distinction Awards Sponsored by Zenith Bank

Zenith Bank Ghana has once again demonstrated its commitment to promoting educational excellence in the country by sponsoring the award for the Overall Best Candidate in the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations for School Candidates.


The bank's Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Henry Onwuzurigbo, presented a cash prize of GHS 30,000 and a laptop to Alex Opoku Manu, the former student of St. James Seminary Senior High School who emerged as the Overall Best Candidate.


This marks the third consecutive year that Zenith Bank has sponsored this award.


Mr. Onwuzurigbo stated that Alex's remarkable academic performance is a testament to his extraordinary abilities.


He further emphasized that the bank's decision to sponsor the award for the third year in a row aligns with its mission of investing in the best people, technology, and environment to ensure customer satisfaction.


Alex, who is currently pursuing Human Biology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), also received a cash prize and a certificate from the WAEC Endowment, while his alma mater received a plaque.


Benjamin Eyram Nana Kwame Degbey, the second Overall Best Student, and Abena Afriyie Poku, the third-place winner, also received cash prizes, laptops, and certificates.


The awards ceremony, organized by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), aimed to recognize and celebrate candidates who excelled in the council's international and national examinations.


Wendy Addy-Lamptey, the Head of the National Office at WAEC, expressed her gratitude to the organizations and Zenith Bank Ghana, the Headline Sponsor of the event, for their support in rewarding excellence.


She also announced that Alex Opoku Manu and Benjamin Eyram Nana Kwame Degbey had secured the first and second prizes, respectively, at the WAEC International Excellence Awards during the 71st Annual Council Meeting of WAEC member countries held in Banjul, The Gambia.


Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Education Minister, extended his congratulations to the winners for their outstanding performance and commended WAEC for organizing the awards.

He encouraged school authorities to focus on developing critical thinking skills among students.
